As a teacher, my goal is to share my fascination with biology, while imparting the necessary tools for students to interact with the natural world as scientists.  I accomplish this by focusing on the practical aspects of science--lab work, reading primary literature, analyzing data, programming, and communicating science.  By blurring the lines between the classroom and laboratory, I combine teaching and research in ways that are mutually beneficial.  I also aim to provide any student with a sense of belonging in my classes and lab, regardless of their background experience or learning style.
